Tool summaryName of the tool Sustainable Development Index (SDI) Description of the tool According to Agenda 21 proposals and to OCDE model (Pressure / State / Response), 21 relevant indicators, representing production, natural and social systems, were selected according to the following criteria:
• availability and reliability of the source of information data,
• the most current statistical data,
• representatives in the analysis of the 3 sustainability dimensions as well as the regional importance of the selected 7 municipalities,
• a holistic approach that includes qualitative and quantitative terms.
For each indicator a utility function was designed. Its role was to relate the different variables having different units with a dimensionless scale from 0 to 1.
Sustainable Development Index (SDI) is a weighted average obtained from these indicators.
