Tool summary

Name of the tool
Green Plot Ratio

Description of the tool
The Green Plot Ratio is a planning instrument for ecological sustainability in cities.

The GPR is based on a common biological parameter called the leaf area index (LAI), which is defined as the single-side leaf area per unit ground area. The GPR is the average leaf area index of the greenery on site and is presented as a ratio that is similar to the building plot ratio (BPR) currently in use in many cities to control maximum allowable built-up floor area in a building development. GPR can also be defined as the ratio of the total single-side leaf area of the planted landscape to the plot or site area.

(Building Plot Ratio is the ratio of gross liveable (or rentable) area and the site area).
