Tool summary

Name of the tool
Action Towards Local Sustainbility (ATLAS) sustainability management toolkit: Sustainability Checklist

Description of the tool
This checklist, consisting of a series of questions, is intended to help both staff and elected representatives to understand what sustainability principles mean in practice, and to apply those principles to the day-to-day decisions they face. The checklist outlined is designed to provide an example, since the ATLAS project believes that a local authority that uses a sustainability checklist will want to frame the issues or questions it covers according to its own specific sustainable development policies or the sustainability issues that are seen as the main priorities locally.

However, ATLAS points out that an important common feature to all Sustainability Checklists should be that they require the user to consider the economic, environmental and social implications of the proposal or decision in an integrated way.

Specific topic
