Housing sightlines checklist

Description of the tool
This checklist provides a set of standards, designed to accompany the principles of Lifetime Homes, to help build an accessible home for people with sight loss. It is aimed at all involved in house design, development and management. The guide sets the standards of good practice that are capable of being copied across the housing sector.

The aim of the tool is "To have housing in Wales that will enable people with sight problems to live safely and independently and enjoy the right to privacy, comfort and security in their own home". The tool suggests designs, materials and colours for housing for example:
"1.2 Pathways to the home and any ancillary buildings, such as garages and sheds, should be smooth, hard and non-slip, even when wet."
"8.2 All switches, sockets and controls in the home should be contrasted in colour or tone against their background."
"9.5 The floor of the lift car should contrast tonally with the walls."
