In order to promote urban renewal in the city of Nijmegen appraisals have been made for various parts of the city. The appraisal leads to an insight in the potential locations for redevelopment and the type of development to take place.

A six step tool has been used to integrate various visions of environmental factors including strengths and weaknesses of an area together with occupants vision of the environment of a neighbourhood.

Environmental issues are often tackled as single issues. This method of analysis tries to give a combined view of all factors and to base an assessment on the type of landuse and the interpretation of the environmental quality.
