Legislation
What Legislation is included within PETUS?
Basic relevant EU legislation associated with sustainability is included on
PETUS together with a web link to the EU website where further information can
be obtained. The types of legislation included are:
Directive - “Statement setting forth policy etc. for guidance of others”
The Oxford Illustrated Dictionary.
Green papers - “Commission Green Papers are documents intended to stimulate
debate and launch a process of consultation at European level on a particular
topic such as social policy, the single currency, telecommunications. These
consultations may then lead to the publication of a White Paper, translating
the conclusions of the debate into practical proposals for Community action.”
Europa (2005) http://europa.eu.int/scadplus
White papers - “Commission White Papers are documents containing proposals
for Community action in a specific area. In some cases they follow a Green Paper
published to launch a consultation process at European level. Examples include
the White Papers on the completion of the internal market, on growth, competitiveness
and employment and the approximation of the laws of the associated states of
Central and Eastern Europe in areas of relevance to the internal market. When
a White Paper has been favourably received by the Council, it can become the
action programme for the Union in the area concerned.” Europa (2005) http://europa.eu.int/scadplus
Information is available in the eleven languages for each of the Directives,
White papers and Green papers included, which were the official languages of
the European Union before 1 May 2004.
The EU have produced a website entitled ‘Summaries of Legislation’
which provides more information on policy in all areas. This can be found at
http://www.europa.eu.int/scadplus/scad_en.htm
Why has EU legislation been included?
People are usually aware of the EU legislation that exists in their own field
of expertise or interest but are uncertain of EU legislation in other areas
that may be relevant to them. PETUS will therefore provide a quick and easy
way of accessing legislation in other areas that may be of interest or relevant.
How can I access EU legislation from PETUS?
Sector specific legislation can be obtained by choosing the sector that you
are interested at the left hand side of this website and then by selecting legislation
that you might be interested in. A list of EU legislation that is relevant to
this sector that has been identified by PETUS will be listed. This includes
-
name of the legislation
-
legislation code number
-
implementation date
-
weblink
