Die Gesetze in PETUS:
Die PETUS Website beinhaltet grundlegende EU Gesetze, die in Bezug zur Nachhaltigkeitsplanung stehen und die jeweiligen Verknüpfungen zur EU Website für weitere Informationen. Die Gesetzgebung beinhaltet:

Direktiven - “ Stellungnahmen zu einer Richtlinie und ähnlichem als Grundlage für andere.(The Oxford Illustrated Dictionary)

Grünbücher - “ von der Kommission veröffentlichte Mitteilungen, die zur Diskussion über einen bestimmten Politikbereich dienen. Sie richten sich vor allem an interessierte Dritte, Organisationen und Einzelpersonen, die dadurch die Möglichkeit erhalten, an der jeweiligen Konsultation und Beratung teilzunehmen. In bestimmten Fällen ergeben sich daraus legistische Maßnahmen. Solche Konsultationen sind auf der Website "Ihre Stimme in Europa" zusammengestellt." http://europa.eu.int/scadplus

Weißbücher - “ enthalten Vorschläge für ein Tätigwerden der Gemeinschaft in einem bestimmten Bereich. Sie folgen zuweilen auf Grünbücher, die veröffentlicht werden, um einen Konsultationsprozess auf europäischer Ebene einzuleiten. Während in Grünbüchern eine breite Palette an Ideen präsentiert und zur öffentlichen Diskussion gestellt wird, enthalten Weißbücher förmliche Vorschläge für bestimmte Politikbereiche und dienen dazu, diese Bereiche zu entwickeln."(Europa 2005) http://europa.eu.int/scadplus

Informationen über Direktiven, Grünbücher und Weißbücher stehen in den bis 1. Mai 2004 offiziellen elf Sprachen der Europäischen Union zur Verfügung.

Die EU stellt außerdem eine Website unter der Überschrift „Zusammenfassungen der Gesetzgebung“ zur Verfügung, die über Gesetze und Gesetzesentwürfe informiert. http://www.europa.eu.int/scadplus/scad_en.htm

Warum wurde die Gesetzgebung bei PETUS berücksichtigt
Üblicherweise wissen Fachleute über die EU Gesetze in ihrem Tätigkeitsfeld oder Interessensgebiet Bescheid, es herrscht aber Unsicherheit bezüglich der Gesetzgebung in anderen Bereichen, die auch für sie relevant sein könnten. PETUS stellt daher einen schnellen und einfachen Zugang zur Gesetzgebung aus anderen Bereichen, die relevant oder von Interesse sein könnte, zur Verfügung.

Wie kann auf die EU Gesetzgebung von PETUS aus zugegriffen werden?
Sektorspezifische Gesetzgebung ist vom jeweiligen Sektor aus zugänglich. Die Sektoren sind auf der linken Seite der PETUS-Website zu finden. Durch Klicken auf die Sektorüberschrift erschienen die Unterbereiche, „Fallstudien“, “Tools“ und „Gesetzgebung“. Unter Gesetzgebung sind die in diesem Sektor relevanten Gesetze aufgelistet. Die Liste beinhaltet:
